Our Lone Oak Syrah – so named for the solitary oak tree that overlooks our vines at Evan’s Ranch – is produced predominantly from the Estrella River clone, California’s benchmark Syrah selection, which purportedly originated in the vineyards of France’s Hermitage region, the Northern Rhône Valley’s most famous Syrah appellation. Compared to our other Evan’s Ranch Syrah, Las Brisas, which showcases the earthy, spicy, savory side of the syrah variety, Lone Oak is more voluptuously fruity. This Syrah displays perfumed brambleberry, dark plum and red currant aromas with complementary notes of white pepper, black licorice, roasted earth and cocoa. The complex mélange of scents, expressed in this Lone Oak Syrah, is reflected on the wonderfully rich, mouthfilling palate, which is lush with ripe blackberry, cassis and spice flavors, balanced by supple tannins and earthy/mineral nuances, all culminating in a deliciously long, savory finish. It merits 5-7 years’ cellaring from the date it was bottled.
